First Environmental policy
One of the first environmental policies came about in 1963 when a New York company had plans to build a power plant on Stone King Mountain near the Hudson River. The power plant was being built to accommodate for the growing population in the suburbs and within the city limits. people who were thinking short term thought the power plant would bring jobs to the area, in contrast others thought about the negative impact that the power plant would have on the environment. The event caused major uproar within the community which later lead to them both sides going to court. the Power Plant later lost in court but this case helped open the "talks" about environmental issues (land use) on a serious level.
